WASHINGTON — For several Republican presidential hopefuls, Monday is turning out to be a Pure Michigan kind of day.

Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky. holds up his cell phone as he speaks before announcing the start of his presidential campaign, April 7 at the Galt House Hotel in Louisville, Ky.

Already announced were Dr. Ben Carson, a Detroit native, expected to be in the city for a major announcement and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker speaking at a Republican dinner in Oakland County.

Now, add to the list U.S. Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky, who will head to a "Stand with Rand" event in Grand Rapids hosted by U.S. Rep. Justin Amash, R-Cascade Township.

The event begins at 10:30 a.m. at the Kent County Republican Party Headquarters, 725 Lake Michigan Dr., NW in Grand Rapids.

Paul has made several trips to Michigan in recent years, including speaking to the Detroit Economic Club in 2013 and to a Republican gathering in Rochester last October.
